My name is Mira. I grew up in San Diego, California, and now attend UNC Chapel Hill as a Morehead-Cain scholar studying Biology and Medical Anthropology with a minor in Data Science.
I spent the first two months of my gap year after high school in Trujillo as a global health intern with HOP, and am so excited to keep working with HOP! During my time in Trujillo, I spent my mornings shadowing the primary care clinician, doing medical transcription, and creating informational handouts for patients about the most common diseases we noticed in the community. I spent my afternoons working with HOP’s various programs. I translated for the healthy cooking classes, and spent time with HOP’s Chimuk knitting program as well. After a few weeks at CESAPU, I was struck by the community that Chimuk has helped to build and the impact it has had on the women’s lives. I spent the rest of my time conducting interviews and putting together videos illustrating how Hands on Peru has affected the lives of the women who participate in Chimuk.
