Hands on Peru is taking a leap of faith – we are hiring, for the first time a Deputy Director – Peru. This position will directly support the Executive Director, while working in tandem and collaboration with the local health staff. This is more than just a job – it is a passion. Community Health Programs & Services
We have a well established team of local professionals who are extremely capable. You will be expected to support them & empower them completely, while ‘cleaning up’ a few things and helping us grow. Our team will be your biggest asset and support. The deputy director will support local healthcare staff in the following ways:
Data collection & reporting analysis & evaluation:
- Develop a new system (or improve existing system) of monthly program data for easy data retrieval & access for quarterly & annual reports
- Collect data and make reports for grants & foundations when necessary
- Data analysis & outcome data ; implement surveys for outcome impact (This may include design & implementation of surveys, data comparison & analysis, both qualitative & quantitative, etc.)
- Support Executive team in grant writing, foundation support, patient testimonials, etc. or anything else they may need
Social Impact & patient experience
- Regular collection of patient testimonials, progress videos, and proof of impact for social media, donors, and storytelling (both short term and long term)
- Implementation of surveys and monthly reporting on patient satisfaction surveys
- Design and implementation of “short term” surveys (i.e. one month bursts of a special and reporting those results)
- Engage always in friendly conversation with patients and constant research on who comes to our clinic & why they’re there, how they heard of it, etc.
- Develop strategies for continuous outreach to nearby communities
- Utilize social media for storytelling – behind the scenes – of our clinic (Instagram, Tiktok, e-mail campaigns, etc.)
Improve program quality
- Identify gaps & weaknesses and help empower staff to find solutions together to promote attendance and learning
- Ensure programs and surveys maintain aligned with UN Sustainable development goals and best-practices in global health
- Co-develop innovative strategies to incentivize participation & attendance in programs (both existing & new)
OUTREACH
- Design & develop strategies to grow our clinic’s brand & reputation in local communities, attracting more patients / program participants
- Support Health director in local strategic partnerships with: government, private entities, Universities or other teaching institutions, MINSA, etc. (Fostering existent relationships & forming new ones)
Volunteer Program
The Deputy director will be the main volunteer director & coordinator in Peru. The volunteer program is year-round, however volunteers are not always present.
In country VOLUNTEER DIRECTOR
- Coordinate all volunteer in-country needs (lodging, food, schedule, activities) alongside staff
- Coordinate directly with local volunteers (those who write us from Peru & other places in South America)
- Global health interns: Co-design practicum projects and supervise said projects (i.e. they can help, for example, with data analysis and comparison reports) Many students need a supervisor in their field of study- formal, written supervision will be determined on a case by case basis, however informal supervision & support is expected as they go through their project
- Volunteer placement: Actively search for collaborations that could benefit from volunteers (ex. Vaccination or nutrition campaigns with local health centers, educational talks to groups of mothers & babies, new hospital rotations, etc.)
- Design short- term impactful projects and/or tasks that volunteers can do regularly in the clinic and be useful. (Can be related or unrelated to healthcare)
- Foster local relationships with health clinics, doctors and schools to open up opportunities for medical volunteers, host small health activations, etc.
- Be there for emotional support and guidance through their time in Peru – weekly check-in’s and reflections
- 24/7 availability when volunteers are present in case of emergency
Additional support in volunteer program
- Help look for new groups of volunteers – forming strategic partnerships, implementing innovative marketing ideas to attract more students, doctors, etc.
- Always work to enhance the volunteering experience through continuous improvement, outreach, etc.
- Availability to sign off on paperwork for volunteers, write & submit letters of recommendation, and any other ‘housekeeping’ things.
Leadership Outreach
- What can you do to reach out to local and international contacts on Hands on Peru’s behalf, to support & grow our mission? – Join Online platforms/ online communities, etc.
- Benefits may include travel to conferences and brand representation
- Supporting executive team in strategic development, fundraising, grant identification, etc.
- Refine nonprofit communication strategies & media presence
- Sharing ideas for donor engagement
Chimuk
It is inevitable you will need to dedicate a portion of your time on Chimuk – our social impact brand (estimated 10-15%). While this position is not Chimuk-specific, as deputy director you will be expected to be a team player and support the Chimuk team, as well.
- Occasional support of social impact brand – Chimuk – as needed (particularly in data collection).
- This can include support in: inventory, patient testimonials, data collection, etc.
- Representing Chimuk in local artisan fairs & always supporting the growth of the brand
- Occasional travel to strategic partners to check in on products (Lima, Cusco, etc.)
- Healthy collaboration with new Chimuk director (to be hired)

More about the position:
- 30-35 hours per week (75% in the clinic and 25% remote), may include some Saturday mornings
- Starting salary: 2,500 soles per month
- 2 weeks of paid time off per year
- Carnet Extranjería (You will have to manage the details your own Carnet Extranjeria through APCI, with our support and support of a lawyer)

Requirements
- A graduate degree is preferred for this position, ideally MPH
- Experience with healthcare, global health knowledge, data management & reporting
- Great with people, ability to create conversation, etc.
- Comfortable with & good at public speaking
- Ability to manage various different projects at the same time
- Experience working in Latin America
- Ability to take direction while simultaneously ability to co-create your own goals and work towards them
- Willing to represent HOP (both in person and virtual) locally & internationally
- Fluent in Spanish & English
- Efficient & effective work ethic

CONTRACT
- This position will have a 3 month trial period to ensure mutual agreement and right fit. After that the contract will be signed for 2 years. We are looking to fill this position for a long-term.
TIMING
- Training period will be for 3 months between May 2026 and October 2026 – to actively train alongside Executive Director during volunteer months. Training period will be paid at 75%.
